The primary function of passive fire protection is to prevent the passage of fire and smoke within a fire compartment of a building that has been divided up into manageable areas of risk for a defined period of time (Fire Strategy), which typically ranges from 30 minutes up to 4 hours, this to allow time for occupants to escape and to provide a safe means of access for firefighters.
Compartmentation of a building is defined by the fire strategy created in line with the build/construction code followed, this fire rating does not only apply to the compartment itself but also to any services that may pass through the compartment, horizontally or vertically, imperfections in construction build, as well as any opening, such as doors, windows or hatchways.

All of our fire safety services are IFC certified and we have many other certifications including ASFP, Constructionline Gold, CHAS, Builders Profile Premium, IFSM, Safe Contractor, FPA and ISO.
You are required to have a Fire Risk Assessment every 12 months by law! The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, means that any person who has some level of control in an organisation and/or over premises must take reasonable steps to reduce the risk of fire. Fire compartmentation & Fire Door Surveys aren't required by law, but are typically required as a result of the FRA.
Best practice and UK fire safety guidance recommend fire door inspections at least every 6 months, with quarterly checks (every 12 weeks) in high-traffic or high-risk areas such as shared residential buildings, hospitals, and schools.
